Green Spot is an iconic Single Pot Still Irish whiskey, produced exclusively by Mitchell & Son wine merchants in Dublin. Its origins can be traced back to the early 20th century, when Mitchell & Son received casks of whiskey from the Jameson distillery and marked these with various "spots" to indicate age. Of these "Spot" whiskeys, Green Spot is the best known and has maintained its high status in the whiskey world.

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Golden amber.

Nose: Aromatic oily nuttiness, with green notes of apple, fresh pear, and a touch of lemon peel. Sweet grain notes and soft wood notes also emerge.

Taste: Silky and smooth on the tongue with notes of sweet grains, fresh malt, grilled nuts, and a subtle spice.

Finish: Medium-long aftertaste with hints of malt and lingering fruity sweetness.

About the manufacturer:

Mitchell & Son is a family run wine shop which has been in business since the 19th century. Their unique relationship with the Jameson distillery led to the creation of Green Spot and the other "Spot" whiskies. Today, Green Spot whiskey is produced by Midleton Distillery but remains under the Mitchell & Son brand.

History:

Green Spot began as a 10-year-old whiskey, but the age statement has now been dropped, and the whiskey contains a blend of pot still whiskeys between 7 and 10 years old. For many years Green Spot was almost impossible to find outside of Ireland, but its reputation and demand has led to wider international distribution.

Green Spot can be enjoyed neat, with a small drop of water or with a piece of ice. It is an excellent representation of the Irish Single Pot Still style, and is therefore ideal for those who want to experience what Irish whiskey can really offer beyond the more commercial brands.
